Wheel Size Visualizer
Bring your wheel comparison to life with animated, true-scale tyre diagrams. Compare rim sizes, tyre profiles and rolling diameter before discussing an upgrade with your tyre fitter.
Free metric wheel size visualizer for South African motorists. Dimensions in mm, rims in inches and speed in km/h. No photo upload required.

Animated wheel size comparison
Edit the sizes above to reshape the sidewalls, rims and tread width. The curved marking on each tyre reads width / profile R rim size. Both tyres share the same scale and ground line; rotation is slowed 20x at the same road speed.
The 3D perspective is a projected illustration, not a vehicle fitment simulation. The separate front view shows width without perspective distortion. Reduced-motion settings disable spinning and shape transitions.
- Width (205)
- 205 mm measured from sidewall to sidewall.
- Aspect ratio (55)
- 55% of 205 mm = 112.8 mm sidewall height.
- Construction (R)
- R means radial construction, used by most modern tyres.
- Wheel diameter (16)
- 16 inches (406.4 mm), the diameter of the wheel the tyre fits.
- Width (225)
- 225 mm measured from sidewall to sidewall.
- Aspect ratio (50)
- 50% of 225 mm = 112.5 mm sidewall height.
- Construction (R)
- R means radial construction, used by most modern tyres.
- Wheel diameter (17)
- 17 inches (431.8 mm), the diameter of the wheel the tyre fits.

Diameter groups are calculated from the size markings and rounded to the nearest whole inch; each card shows the exact nominal diameter. This reference list is not exhaustive and does not confirm tyre availability or vehicle fitment. Check rim width, load/speed ratings, clearance and manufacturer requirements with a qualified fitter.
How to use the wheel size visualizer
- Select your vehicle and reference variant, or read the original size from the vehicle placard.
- Enter tyre width, aspect ratio and rim diameter for both sizes. In 205/55R16, these are 205 mm, 55% and 16 inches.
- Switch between 2D side view and 3D perspective. Read the curved sidewall marking and dimension guides as you change tyre width, aspect ratio and rim diameter.
- Play the animation and adjust the speed slider. Compare the diameter, sidewall and estimated speedometer effect.
- Ask a qualified fitter to check the full wheel and tyre specification before buying.
Calculation method and limits
Sidewall = width x profile / 100. Overall diameter = rim inches x 25.4 + 2 x sidewall. Circumference = diameter x pi. Estimated actual speed = indicated speed x alternative diameter / original diameter.
These are nominal unloaded dimensions, not measurements of a specific tyre brand. Wear, pressure, load and factory speedometer bias change real-world results. The diagram is not a photograph or a simulation of wheel-arch fit, offset or suspension clearance. Staggered front/rear fitments must be checked separately.
Vehicle tyre size reference mapping
Initial curated South African reference examples, not a complete or manufacturer-certified database. Only matching directory models expose these options. Confirm your exact year, trim, factory wheel option and placard; no size is inferred for unlisted vehicles.

Wheel size visualizer FAQs
What is a wheel size visualizer?
A wheel size visualizer draws two wheel and tyre combinations to the same scale so you can compare rim diameter, sidewall height and overall tyre diameter. Switch between 2D and a projected 3D-style view to see sidewall size markings and dimension guides update as you edit width, aspect ratio and rim size. This tool also estimates speedometer changes.
How do I find the correct tyre size for my vehicle?
Use the vehicle selector to find a listed reference year and trim, then verify the size against your door placard or owner's manual. Reference mappings are not VIN-verified and do not cover every factory option. If your vehicle is not mapped, enter your placard size manually.
Does a larger rim always mean a taller tyre?
No. A larger rim with a lower-profile tyre can keep the same overall diameter. Overall diameter in millimetres equals rim diameter in inches multiplied by 25.4, plus twice the tyre width multiplied by the aspect ratio divided by 100.
How does changing tyre size affect my speedometer?
Assuming the speedometer is calibrated to the original tyre, estimated actual speed equals indicated speed multiplied by new tyre diameter divided by original tyre diameter. Larger overall tyres travel farther per revolution. Factory speedometer bias and tyre wear are not included.
Is a tyre diameter difference below 3% safe?
A 3% difference is only a common comparison guideline, not a fitment or safety approval. Check manufacturer limits, rim width, offset, bolt pattern, brake and body clearance, axle specifications, load index and speed rating with a qualified tyre fitter.
